Negatives

There are a few flaws that I have noticed in HobbyTown, some affect the stores business First things that aren’t good for business, these would include almost any fad for elementary school kids, lack of roleplaying/ board games, and the return policy.
FADS
These just aren’t things that a store like HobbyTown sells well. Even when we get them before they become popular, which is rare. The store just ends up with buckets of silly bands, gogos, and other weird items most of which wouldn’t even sell if we were inside a school. The good news is I think Lee has also seen the error in buying these, but I thought that about 3 months ago and it happened again.
ROLEPLAYING/BOARD GAMES
I am probably biased on this subject since I work for one of the largest board game companies over the summer at conventions. But because of this I know a lot of people who would be willing customers for these products and they aren’t cheap, a lot of profit can be made here. Lee used to be into this territory years and years ago but didn’t do well then, things are different now though Roleplaying and board games are increasing at crazy rates and customers come in the store asking for them all the time.
RETURN POLICY
This may or may not be an issue but I have noticed a lot of dropped sales because of the return policy. Just last Sunday someone was going to buy $18 worth of High Current cable leads but with a no cash refund policy nothing was bought. I understand why this policy is in place though. It exsits to stop a lot of extra work that comes from refunds and while it does stop a lot of extra work it also slows down the business.
(picture wont post) its a bucket of silly bands...that will never sell :(...)

  1. you have some really good ideas here. The purchase risk which is not statistically significant to your clientele. The lack of board games, that's very interesting. I don't think you are bias here; I think you are thinking like someone in marketing. In Unit IV for your project, you may want to consider writing a proposal to your boss arguing to actually buy board and role-playing games. This could be really useful, not just for your grade, but for retail! Just a thought.
