I think that Church does a good job connecting the audience to her her topic. In doing this she gives them a reason to care about it since it directly affects their lives. In fact she uses statements like "we may lose many opportunities to develop medicines we need to survive." This sentence should make everyone who reads it care about her topic even if it it only a little. And to back this statement up she has examples of us losing medical material in the past that we can no longer get to show that it can happen again.
